Henry County leaders will get a short-term coronavirus testing site on Friday, two weeks after publicly pleading for an additional facility to address growing COVID-19 cases.
The county said Tuesday that the Department of Health will operate a pop-up COVID-19 testing site from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at J.P. Moseley Park, 1041 Millers Mill Road, in Stockbridge.
Interested residents do not need to have symptoms to get tested nor do they need to have had contact with a person who previously tested positive for the virus. Appointments are not necessary and while pre-registration is offered, it is not required.
The Henry County Commission earlier this month passed a resolution calling on the District 4 Department of Public Health to open additional COVID-19 testing sites in the community.
Leaders argued that Henry had more confirmed cases of the virus than any other community in the District 4 region -- which includes Fayette, Coweta and Butts counties -- and therefore needed more than the one testing site at the Heritage Senior Center in McDonough.
Henry said its county transit operations will provide free transportation to and from Friday’s pop-up testing site for those who need it. To schedule a trip, call 770-288-7444.
