The Henry County Commission is calling a special meeting Wednesday to consider adopting a shelter in place ordinance, five days after pulling back from enacting such a measure at its last meeting.
The meeting will be held via teleconference at 3 p.m. Wednesday and will also consider other unspecified measures to combat the spread of coronavirus, according to a notice on the commission’s webpage.
Commissioners considered adopting a shelter in place ordinance on Friday, but decided instead to strengthen existing language closing non-essential businesses and prohibiting restaurants from allowing dining inside their premises (restaurants can serve food through drive-through windows and at curbside).
Cities and counties around metro Atlanta, including Gwinnett and DeKalb, have enacted shelter in place measures in recent days as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths have increased. On Monday, there were 3,032 confirmed cases in Georgia and 102 deaths.
