After a lively discussion about specific projects, the Henry County Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 to approve a five-year $365 million capital improvement plan to address capital and infrastructure needs.

The vote came at the board’s Feb. 18 regular meeting. Johnny Wilson and board chair June Wood voted against the plan, while Gary Barham was not at the meeting. Wood cited the inclusion of a convention center/arena when commenting about her vote, calling that project a “want, not a need for Henry County.”

The discussion resulted in an extra $50 million being included for roads, divided between the five commission districts and allocated for signalizations, road widening, sidewalks, lighting and other road infrastructure improvements.
