After a proposal to the city of Stockbridge was not answered satisfactorily, the Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at its Dec. 17 regular meeting to move forward with stormwater repairs so Cochran Park can reopen in time for spring baseball.

The vote was 4-2 with Bruce Holmes and Dee Clemmons voting against. The board had voted a few weeks earlier to greenlight the estimated $550,000 in repairs if Stockbridge agreed to take ownership of the park afterward. Stockbridge officials sent a counteroffer which proposed a five-year transition period.

The park was closed in July due to extensive damage to the stormwater pipes that caused a large sinkhole, after which Holmes proposed that it be repurposed as a passive park. That idea was rejected by other commissioners.
