The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at its May 19 regular meeting to approve a resolution accepting a $69,000 grant for the county’s airport from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The federal funds provide $10 billion in relief for airports affected by COVID-19.

The money is part of $410,917,650 allocated for the state of Georgia, which the Federal Aviation Administration and the state’s Department of Transportation will distribute to eight commercial airports and 88 general aviation airports. Also coming to Henry County from the CARES Act is 100 percent of operating and capital costs for 17 months for Henry County’s transit program and its transportation of elderly and disabled residents.

The county will be eligible for reimbursement up to $729,030 in operating assistance for the 2021 fiscal year, and no local match is required.
