Heavy rain postpones reopening of tornado-damaged Ringgold schools
Tuesday was supposed to be the day that Catoosa County schools, hard hit by April’s deadly tornadoes that tore through the southeast, welcomed students back for a new school year.
Instead, the summer break was extended another day because of flooding rains that swamped the northwest corner of the state.
A notice posted on the school system’s website announced that schools would be closed Tuesday.
Catoosa was one of several northwest Georgia counties still under a flood warning after more than a half-foot of rain fell in the area on Sunday.
The April 27 tornado that hit the county seat of Ringgold heavily damaged Ringgold middle and high schools as well as the school system’s central offices.
