A Duluth Waffle House failed its Thursday health inspection, Gwinnett County records show.

The restaurant on Steve Reynolds Boulevard earned a 61/U on the inspection. The inspector wrote that the location did not have “managerial control” of multiple health risk factors.

A “mold-like substance” was found on soda fountain nozzles and in the ice machine, the inspection report said. Raw country ham was stored in a cooler above produce and whipped cream, according to the inspection.

The Waffle House location earned a 96/A and 99/A on its last two inspections, both of which occurred in 2016.

"All of the violations have been addressed and senior management along with members of our training department are at the location to provide additional coaching to our associates to ensure food safety protocols are in place,” said Kelly Thrasher-Bruner, a Waffle House spokesperson. “We make every effort to provide a clean and safe restaurant for our customers and apologize for letting them down.”
