An 18-year-old man from Duluth drowned Friday after going missing in a Cobb County portion of the Chattahoochee River, authorities said Saturday.

The body of Aaron Asher Daniels was located and recovered about 5:44 p.m. Friday, according to a media release from the Cobb County Department of Public Safety.

Cobb police and fire units responded to the Sandy Point area after a swimmer was reported missing in the river about 2 p.m., The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. This location is about a mile and a half off Akers Mill Road.

The swimmer had gone under water and did not resurface after he tried to swim across the river, Cobb officials said.

The Cobb medical examiner’s office assumed jurisdiction of the body at the scene, according to the release.
