A suspect in a Gwinnett County sexual assault case has been arrested in Florida, police said.
Elvin Virgilio Yanez-Amaya, 27, has been charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and one count each of aggravated sodomy and criminal attempt to commit aggravated sodomy in connection with an April incident, police said.
A pregnant woman called police to her Norcross apartment on April 13, saying her roommate’s boyfriend had tried to sexually assault her and threatened her with a machete. The roommate told police her boyfriend had sexually assaulted her the previous night.
The boyfriend went only by Elvin Amaya, which police believed to be a pseudonm. After the case was publicized Monday, police found Yanez-Amaya was the suspect they were looking for, and that he was incarcerated at the Walton County Jail in Florida on unrelated charges.
It is not clear when Yanez-Amaya will face the charges against him in Gwinnett County.
