Gwinnett County police on Tuesday appealed to the public for help, particularly from the area's Hispanic community, as they continue to investigate the killing of a 46-year-old Norcross man.

Timothy Kemp was found dead with one gunshot wound in the chest less than 10 feet from his apartment on July 25.

Kemp  lived in the Harbin Springs Apartments on Twin Springs Trail in Norcross with Sandra Johnson. A preliminary investigation revealed that a maintenance worker located the body around 8 a.m. July 25. Detectives have not yet released a motive for the shooting.

"He was just a hard worker. He had no enemies or drug and alcohol problems that we knew of," said Kemp's son, Diote Johnson, 21.

"The place where his body was, the grass is pushed down," Johnson said. "Seeing that visual everyday is just a constant reminder of what happened to my dad."

Kemp had recently moved in with Sandra Johnson, Dionte's mother, after living in Decatur. Sandra was out of town when the shooting happened.

Dionte said his father worked at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport as a janitor and contracted with Coca Cola doing maintenance.

The family urged the public to contact police with any leads, 770-513-5431.

"Gwinnett police normally doesn't do press releases with the families of homicide victims, but detectives thought this would be a good idea," said police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith.

"They do have leads, but they're really hoping the Spanish-speaking community will speak out since that area is mostly Hispanic," Smith said.
