The Gwinnett County Police Department’s sixth precinct will be up and running later this month.
Officials will hold a ribbon cutting at the new Bay Creek Precinct — located at 185 Ozora Road near Loganville — on Tuesday afternoon. The facility will go "live" with officers ready to serve the community on Dec. 14.
Authorities believe the new 12,000-square-foot precinct will strengthen police presence and improve response times in one of the fastest growing areas of the county.
The precinct will be responsible for a large swath of southeastern Gwinnett.
The $15.9 million facility will include command staff offices, a fitness center for officers and evidence storage space, officials said. The public will also be able to access reports at the precinct, which was paid for by SPLOST funds.
Bay Creek will also include an alternate 911 center, which will be fully operational but also serve as a backup facility should GCPD’s primary 911 center be compromised.
