A faulty air condition forced firefighters to evacuate Snellville Middle School for about two hours Monday, officials said.

Gwinnett County firefighters said they were called to the Pate Road school around 3:15 p.m. for a report of an odor of smoke.

Firefighters evacuated the school and searched the area. They found a "light haze of smoke" in the hallway near the administrative offices, Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said.

"The source was found to be an air-handling unit on the ground floor of the school building," he said.

No injuries were reported.

Maintenance crews were working to repair the unit, Rutledge said.

Students and staff were allowed to return to the building around 5 p.m. The evacuation forced school officials to delay dismissal for about an hour. The school will be open Tuesday.
