A Firehouse Subs in Lawrenceville failed its latest health inspection, Gwinnett County records show.

The sandwich shop on Sugarloaf Highway earned a 42/U on the Sept. 15 inspection, dropping from the score of 73/C, which it earned just two days earlier. A health inspector noted multiple sanitation and food storage violations.

A food thermometer was cleaned with hand sanitizer and then immediately placed into a container of meatballs, the report says. The meatballs were then thrown away. A separate container of meatballs were “not properly reheated” and held at a temperature below what is considered safe, the report says.

A bag of onions was stored on a wet floor and had to be moved to storage shelves, according to the report. One employee was wearing bracelets and a watch while preparing sandwiches, which is a violation of health code. Another employee did not have her hair properly restrained, the report says.

The previous health inspection report with a score of 73 was not displayed in the restaurant, which is required under health codes. The store also did not display a food safety certification, according to the report.
