A man suspected of a violent carjacking in Lawrenceville has been arrested by Clayton County authorities.

Jeffrey Merritt was arrested on warrants related to a June carjacking in which a woman was hit over the head with a chair before her car was stolen at gunpoint.

The Clayton County Police Department’s narcotics unit received a tip from a “confidential informant” that Merritt had been seen at the Pines of Southlake Apartments in Morrow, according to a Facebook post from the department. Officers confirmed Merritt was at the apartment complex at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was arrested shortly after.

“Wink, wink to the CI [confidential informant]” the police department wrote on Facebook. “You did your thang!”

Merritt is facing charges of aggravated assault, armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle and battery.
