Gwinnett's Amanda Weir makes third US Olympics swimming team

July 2, 2016

For the third time, Amanda Weir is making her way to the Olympics.

The Gwinnett native, who graduated from Brookwood High School, placed third in the 100-meter freestyle finals during the U.S. Olympic swimming trials Friday. The win helped her snag a spot on the American team for the upcoming games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

But before she heads overseas, the UGA alum will compete in the 50-meter freestyle competition, which is taking place this weekend.

Weir, 30, made her Olympics debut in 2004 at age 18 in Greece and returned in 2012 when London hosted the event.

During her career, she has won three Olympic gold medals, two silvers and one bronze.
