Sandy Creek High School in Fayette County will soon have a new garden for students with special needs. The “sensory garden,” to be installed in the school’s center atrium, will allow students to participate in hands-on learning involving such elements as water, music, wind and motion.

Funding for the garden comes from a $22,000 grant from Lowe’s, which the school’s SkillsUSA chapter applied for earlier this year. The atrium itself was already renovated using a $2,000 Lowe’s grant last year. Lowe’s Newnan store will provide the students with mentors, guidance and volunteers; installation will continue through December, and the garden should open in January.
