The Gwinnett County Animal Shelter will be letting people take home a pet free of charge for the three remaining Fridays in March.

New pet parents can adopt a dog, cat or other animal for free on March 16, 22 and 30. Dogs typically have an adoption fee of $90 and cats typically have an adoption fee of $30.

The shelter currently has more than 100 dogs and cats available for adoption, according to its website. In the past, the shelter has also had rabbits, chickens, ferrets and even a fish available to adopt.

Many pets in the shelter’s custody have already been examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated and neutered or spayed, making them ready to go home with a new owner the day of adoption. If a pet is not vaccinated and neutered or spayed, they must undergo those procedures before being released.

The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It is located at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.
