Get free pet vaccinations at Gwinnett shelter event

Pet owners can get free vaccines for their furry friends at a Gwinnett County Animal Shelter event this weekend.

The shelter is hosting the Best Friend Pet and Safety Festival at Best Friend Park in Norcross on Nov. 9. The event will allow residents to interact with local police officers and firefighters, as well as share information and resources with area pet owners, according to a shelter release.

The first 500 pets to visit the Gwinnett Animal Welfare trailer at the event will get free vaccinations and microchips. The free vaccines include rabies, DHPP (covering distemper, parvo and bordatella for dogs) and FVRCP (covering rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia in cats). The shelter is debuting new veterinary and adoption trailers at the event.

A grant from celebrity chef Rachael Ray and the Best Friends Animal Society funded the vaccines for this event, according to a county release.

Pets must be in a carrier or on a leash at the event, including during the wait for vaccines. The event runs rom 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Best Friend Park is located at 6224 Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Norcross.
