A Georgia State Patrol trooper and a motorcyclist were injured in a Thursday morning pursuit and crash on the Downtown Connector, authorities said.

In a statement, the GSP said a motorcycle driven by a Covington man struck the back of an SUV on the northbound Connector, just past Memorial Drive. The man, whose name was not released, did not have a motorcycle license.

“The [SUV] jerked … into the path of a patrol car,” the GSP said.

Witnesses saw the pursuit and tried to move out the way, according to Channel 2 Action News.

“As we were coming out of the tunnel, we saw [police] lights,” witness Michael Crawford told the news station. “As we merged over to the right, that’s when the motorcyclist smacked full speed into the car.”

The injured trooper is OK. Officials did not release the condition of the motorcyclist, who was in police custody.
