The American Academy of Nursing on Tuesday announced the names of 231 highly distinguished nurse leaders elected as 2019 Academy fellows. Eleven Georgia nurses will be among those inducted at the upcoming AAN policy conference in October.

Fellows come from 17 different countries, 38 states and the District of Columbia.
To earn a spot in the Academy, which currently recognizes more than 2,600 nurse leaders “for their extraordinary commitment to the promotion of the public’s health through evidence and innovation,” fellows undergo a rigorous, competitive selection process. The AAN’s committee of elected fellows sifts through hundreds of applications each year.

“I am proud to welcome this incredible class of leaders to the American Academy of Nursing,” Academy president Karen Cox said in a statement. “Their amazing accomplishments have changed health and health care across the country and around the globe. I look forward to celebrating the new fellows at our 2019 policy conference and working with them in the future so that our collective knowledge can impact and influence health policy.”
The 2019 policy conference will be held in Washington, D.C. between Oct. 24 and Oct. 26.
