State highway officials say they have revised their plans and no longer will require detours during the summer months when they construct dual roundabouts on Ga. 9 at Dawson Forest Road in southern Dawson County.

After taking public comment at a March open house, the Georgia Department of Transportation said it modified the project’s staging to maintain access to the intersection, except for a few days when temporary detours may be required.

"All disruptions to traffic will be minimized, and advance notification will be given to the public when the contractor plans to detour traffic," GDOT said. Information: https://bit.ly/2QiMLKJ

When school starts up again, the contractor will be allowed to work from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, GDOT said; and when the fall leaf season arrives and traffic increases Oct. 1-Nov. 15, lane closures will not be allowed between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturdays or Sundays.

Plans call for a pair of single-lane roundabouts at the existing, offset intersections of Ga. 9 and Dawson Forest.

Each roundabout will have a 140-foot inscribed diameter, 20-foot circulating lane, 15-foot-wide truck apron, center island 70 feet in diameter, and curbs and gutters.
