The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is working to solve a rash of thefts of delivery service packages left at home front doors and porches — all believed to be the work of the same crew.

Sheriff’s spokesman Doug Rainwater said that in the past week, a half- dozen such deliveries have been stolen in a 2-mile area centering on Ga. 400 in south Forsyth County. Rainwater said the culprits are believed to be following drivers through neighborhoods, then snatching the goods, and that thousands of dollars in computers and toys have been taken. The thefts usually happen between noon and 3 p.m.

Rainwater said that unmarked police units are being used to search for the culprits, and delivery drivers are keeping closer watch. He said the easiest way to guard against such thefts is to have packages delivered to one’s place of business or to a family member or neighbor who’ll be at home.

Anybody with information about the thefts is asked to call the criminal investigations section at 770-781-2200.
