Forsyth County has announced the opening of new, natural-surface trails at Lanierland Park and Matt Community Park.

Lanierland Park is at 6115 Jot Em Down Rd, Cumming. Its trail is a 2.6-mile out-and-back route through open fields, tree-covered areas and along a creek, officials said. The trail head is next to the main parking lot.

The trail at Matt Community Park, 6555 Wallace Tatum Road, Cumming, features stacked loops totaling 3.06 miles through woods and along a pond, officials said. Its trail head is near the back of the park.

The trails were designed by the Forsyth Parks & Recreation Department’s Natural Resources Division. Lanierland’s was constructed by Aaron Steel and Associates, and Matt’s, by Reliant Construction Inc. Both trails were funded by the 2008 Parks & Recreation Greenspace Bond and impact fees.

“Trails are the No. 1 amenity requested by residents,” said Parks & Recreation Director Jim Pryor. “By adding these two trails, the county now has just under 50 miles of trails for citizens to enjoy.”
