The Forsyth County School District announced parent information nights on its Dual Language Immersion program for the 2020-21 school year.

Parents of rising kindergartners are invited. Meetings start at 6 p.m., Jan. 13, at Brandywine Elementary; Jan. 14, Mashburn Elementary (new to the program this fall); Jan. 16, Cumming Elementary; and Jan. 23, Kelly Mill Elementary.

"Dual Language Immersion is not a traditional world language class," according to a district announcement. "DLI is an instructional model where, starting in kindergarten, students are taught 50% of the day in a target language and 50% in English. The goal is for students to graduate high school bilingual and biliterate in English and a second language."

Currently, Spanish is the second language. Math, science and target language literacy are taught by an immersion teacher, and English Language Arts, social studies and English literacy, by an English-speaking teacher.
