The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved a series of amendments to the county’s sign ordinance dealing with electronic message boards.
The revisions allow non-billboard type electronic signs to change copy more frequently, going from three hours to 20 minutes. Billboard signs would still be allowed to switch copy every 10 seconds.
The changes also alter the way brightness standards are measured both at night and during the daytime while establishing glare-reducing standards for both, and apply brightness limits to all electronic message boards, not just those of the billboard variety.
The alterations carried on a 4-1 vote, with commission member Jim Boff opposed.
