Arrest warrants have been issued for a Florida man accused of posing as Cobb County bank customers and withdrawing nearly $50,000 from their accounts.

David Alan Powers of Tarpon Springs, Florida, is wanted on seven counts each of identity fraud and felony theft by taking in connection to a series of bank withdrawals he allegedly made using fake identification.

According to the arrest warrants obtained Dec. 28 by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, Powers on May 17, 2019, visited SunTrust Bank locations at 2784 Cumberland Parkway and 3379 South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, presented a fake ID in the name of a customer and filled out a withdrawal slip. He was able to obtain $7,600 from the Cumberland Parkway location and $7,200 from the Smyrna bank, the arrest warrant alleges.

On May 22, Powers allegedly conducted the same modus operandi at SunTrust Bank locations at 47 Whitlock Avenue in Marietta, 1184 Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw and 1331 Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta.

After presenting a fake ID of the customer he was allegedly targeting, Powers filled out withdrawal slips and obtained $7,700 from the bank on Whitlock Avenue, $4,700 from the Barrett Parkway branch and $8,000 from the Johnson Ferry Road location.

Later in the month on May 28, he returned to the Whitlock Avenue SunTrust Bank and, after posing as a customer, obtained $7,200 in cash from the bank, an arrest warrant states. Powers went to another SunTrust Bank at 2600 Dallas Highway in Marietta and after presenting a fake ID of a customer, received $7,200 from the bank.

Cobb County Adult Detention Center records show Powers has not been booked into the facility as of Jan. 3.
