Flashback Photos: Gwinnett's schools and schoolchildren, 1897-1927

May 5, 2016

Gwinnett County has the biggest, and arguably best, school system in Georgia. But where did it all begin?

Take a look at these very cool historical photos of Gwinnett's schools and schoolchildren -- courtesy the Gwinnett Historical Society and the Georgia Department of Archives and History, unless otherwise noted. Many of the photos date back more than 100 years and, if nothing else, will give you -- and maybe your kids -- a little context.

"Students sat at double desks, brought their own tin cups for water and used nearby woods for toilet facilities," one cutline reads.
