A burning trash can led to a fire at a leasing office in Gresham Park on Friday morning, authorities said.

DeKalb County firefighters responded to the blaze at the Eagles Run apartments on Bouldercrest Road after someone reported the burning trash can, Battalion Chief Maurice Gates told AJC.com from the scene.

“Once they pulled up, the fire had actually extended into the building,” he said.

The fire quickly spread into the building’s attic, but firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread to any nearby units.

“Because of the height of the building we had a difficult time getting up there to it, but we were able to get up there and get the fire put out,” Gates said.

It’s unclear what started the fire.
