A special called meeting on Tuesday of the Fayette County Board of Commissioners included the first of two public hearings regarding the FY2018 operating budget. Chief Financial Officer Mary Parrott outlined the $88.8 million operating budget, including $49.2 million for the general fund. Taxes will account for 59.7 percent of general fund revenue; another 23.9 percent will come from the local option sales tax. Salary and benefits for 724 full-time and 41 part-time employees constitute 65 percent of the general fund expenditures.

The board will vote on the budget on June 22.
