During a special called meeting Monday morning, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to close most of its administrative offices to the public through March 27.

The board also gave County Administrator Steve Rapson the authority to make further operational decisions as circumstances related to the coronavirus change. County employees will still work on site, and the health department office will remain open to the public. The library and recreation complexes will close. Residents are asked to communicate by phone or email to individual departments as needed, and to use online services whenever possible. The March 26 commission meeting has been canceled, and the board will decide next week about any extended closures.

Tax Commissioner Kristie King said her office will remain open for homestead exemption and car tag filings, but with reduced staff to limit office traffic.
