Fayette County’s Water System is adding $50,000 to continue participating in the North Georgia Planning District’s Toilet Rebate Program. Starting in 2008, owners of homes built before 1993 have been eligible for rebates of up to $100 when they replace their toilets with water-saving models.

The credits are applied to water bills. More than 2,600 toilets have qualified for the rebate as of November, which the water system says has resulted in saving 50,136 gallons of water per day.

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners approved the additional funds on Dec. 10.
