A Covington man, his son and his grandson were identified as those killed Monday in Newton County in a head-on crash with a school bus, Channel 2 Action News reported.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Spring Valley Way and Highway 162. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the bus was traveling southbound when a BMW carrying five people crossed over into its lane and struck it head-on.
Sammie Lee Sawyer Almore Jr., 37, was the driver, Channel 2 reported. His son, Daysean Mark Green, 9, was a back-seat passenger. Malcolm Christian-Worthey, the driver’s 6-month-old grandson, also was in the back seat.
Almore’s wife, Dessie May Christian, 39, was flown to Atlanta Medical Center, the station reported. His daughter, Sashie Green-Almore, 7, was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
No one in the BMW was wearing seat belts, Channel 2 reported.
The crash is still under investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors, the station reported.
