Sandy Springs is going green at Hammond Park, installing artificial turf so the sports fields can be used year-round.

The $525,000 project will involve the fake turf, portable bleachers, fencing and a sweeper to clean the new covering. Crews are scheduled to begin installing the turf later this month, with the project done by March.

The field is home to seven adult and youth recreation leagues, though none typically use the site during the winter months.
