The East Point Municipal Utility Advisory Committee will hold a public hearing on Tuesday to collect citizen input on how the city bills residents for electric service.

The hearing begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bowden Center on Church Street.

The session comes just two months after the city released a report that showed homeowners owe the city more than $487,000 because of chronic underbilling.

The issue came to light after months of resident complaints about the utility’s budget billing process.

A second public hearing on the issue is scheduled for Jan. 5. The advisory commission will review comments and present its recommendations to City Council sometime next year.
