East Point police are looking for the bandits who broke into a Kay Jewelers Thursday night, making off with at least $1 million worth of jewelry.

Investigators have few details right now, East Point Police spokesman Cliff Chandler said Friday afternoon.

Someone -- police are unsure if it was one person or more -- forcibly entered the jewelry store at 740 Marketplace Boulevard after it was closed, Chandler said.

They left with an undetermined amount of jewelry, but Chandler said it was at least $1 million.

Chandler said this is the first break-in like this that the East Point police have handled recently, but he's going to contact other law enforcement agencies to see if similar break-ins have happened nearby.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
