The city of East Point Parks & Recreation Department was awarded two grants to improve Connally Nature Park and support its Youth Flag Football Program.

The department was awarded a $200,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The Parks & Recreation Department will receive $100,000 from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources with a required match of $100,000 from the City for a project total of $200,000. The grant will be used to make park improvements at Connally Nature Park to install a trail with connectivity to the East Point PATH Model Mile, Sumner Park and the Velodrome.

The Department was also awarded a $10,000 Rise Up 159 Flag Football Mini Grant from the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation in partnership with the Georgia Foundation for Public Health and Georgia Shape. These grant funds will be utilized to support the East Point Parks & Recreation Youth Flag Football Program. Jonathon Penn, the East Point Parks & Recreation Director, says these grants will make significant improvements for recreation in the city.
