The city of Dunwoody is working with the DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s Office to examine residential tax records from 2012 to 2014 to determine if Dunwoody homeowners who qualified for a homestead exemption were credited with an assessment freeze exemption for city taxes over the three year period.

Dunwoody homeowners who filed and qualified for a homestead exemption and received an increased property assessment during 2012, 2013 and/or 2014 above their assessed home value in 2009 will receive a refund.

Refunds will vary according to individual property assessment increases. Tax records from 2012 to 2014 indicate the assessment freeze exemption on some parcels in the city was not credited. The city and DeKalb County will determine the exact number of owners not credited with the exemption and will issue payments to the qualifying parcel owners.

Review is ongoing to determine the effect for 2013 and 2014 and all affected owners will be notified.
