A dryer caught on fire and set a Lilburn home ablaze, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services said.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call about the dryer fire shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday. The caller, a  man who lived at the house, said the fire started in the dryer’s lint trap. The man tried to stop the flames with a fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful.

There was “heavy fire involvement” when firefighters arrived to the home on Guinevere Way Southwest, and they had to retreat from the home several minutes after they entered due to advancing flames They were able to extinguish much of the fire before heading back in to eliminate the hot spots that remained.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries but did not have to go to the hospital.

“Both are doing fine,” said Capt. Tommy Rutledge.

A family of two adults and two children were displaced by the fire, and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
