A man was killed Sunday morning when his car crashed into a metal gate at the entrance to an under-construction Cobb County subdivision.

The driver, identified by police as 33-year-old Darius J. Sanders of Marietta, died some time between 4 and 7:30 a.m. Sunday. He was found in his silver 2014 Chevrolet Malibu in a subdivision on Twisted Oak Lane off Jamerson Road, according to Cobb police spokesman Officer Neil Penirelli.

“The vehicle collided with a metal arm which penetrated the passenger compartment of the Chevrolet and caused fatal injuries to the driver,” Penirelli said in a news release.

The arm was being used to restrict entrance to the property, he told AJC.com.

The accident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3987.
