A 21-year-old Loganville woman faces charges of vehicular homicide and drunken driving after a crash in Norcross that killed a passenger in her car, police said.
Chanae Woodards also was charged with failure to maintain her lane in the accident, which occurred about 4:30 a.m. Thursday at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Corley Road, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.
The Gwinnett Accident Investigation Unit looked into the crash, and police gave this account of the wreck:
Woodards was driving her black 1997 Honda CRV east on Jimmy Carter approaching Corley when her vehicle swerved into a center turn lane.
Her car ran head-on into a black 1997 Toyota Camry stopped in the turn lane and driven by Frank Twum, 20, of Norcross.
Starkesha Magee, 24, of Suwanee, a front-seat passenger in Woodards’ car, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she later died as a result of her injuries.
A rear-seat passenger, Courtney Watts, 23, of Duluth, had minor injuries and also went to Gwinnett Medical.
Woodards and Twum sustained minor injuries also and were taken to North Fulton Hospital. After Woodards was released from the hospital, she was arrested and charged and taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
