Albany will have its first female mayor after Dorothy Hubbard won a runoff election Tuesday.

Unofficial election results showed that the former city commissioner defeated businesswoman B.J. Fletcher by garnering 53.2 percent of the votes.

The Albany Herald reports (http://bit.ly/vIC974) that Hubbard will be sworn into office next month.

Hubbard and Fletcher faced off in Tuesday's runoff after they finished in the top two spots in the Nov. 8 municipal election.

Albany is about 170 miles south of Atlanta in southwest Georgia.
