Dog beaten by Gwinnett County man is fine, deputies say

A 2-year-old Dachshund is recovering and is "fine" after he was severely beaten by a Gwinnett County man, police said.

Rocky will remain with Gwinnett Animal Control until an investigation is complete, Gwinnett Police Cpl. David Schiralli said.

Rocky is recovering from a fractured skull and other broken bones.

Dainley Dewayne Green, 49, of Lawrenceville, has been charged with animal cruelty for beating Rocky, according to the Gwinnett Couny Sheriff's Department. Green allegedly beat the animal in front of his two children last week.

The dog was still bleeding and had bloodshot eyes from being strangled when deputies arrived at the home. Rocky was shaking and had a swollen eye when deputies found him, according to Stacey Bourbonnais with the sheriff's department.

Deputies were tipped off to the attack when Green's wife filed for a temporary protective order against her husband, Bourbonnais said.

Rocky was taken into the custody of Gwinnett Animal Control and was taken for emergency care at a veterinary hospital, Bourbonnais said.

Green remains in the Gwinnett County jail.

Investigators are trying to determine whether Rocky can be released to Green's wife, Schiralli said Wednesday morning.
