The owner of a designated drivers company is stunned and apologetic that two newly hired employees were arrested by police in Dunwoody and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession, Channel 2 Action News reports.
“I was shocked,” said Bill Slagle, who started his non-profit Designated Driver Alternative eight months ago to offer safe rides home for people who have imbibed too much.
Dunwoody police said an officer on patrol early Sunday morning spotted a car on the wrong side of Ravinia Drive and stopped it. When he searched the vehicle, he allegedly found a freshly rolled marijuana cigarette.
Police arrested Jeffrey Deese, 18, and Travis Deal, 24. They had started with Designated Driver the day before and were on their way to pick up a customer at a restaurant.
Slagle told Channel 2 that the pair had passed background checks and had come with a reference. He said that he fired them as soon as he heard of the arrests.
“Young kids sometimes do stupid things,” he said. “These, I’m hoping, have learned a lesson.”
