A DeKalb County Presbyterian minister was identified Tuesday as the man killed in a train accident on Sunday evening.

Lianchinkhup Taithul, 67, was reportedly alone in a 2009 Toyota Carolla when a freight train struck the car at North Clarendon and East Ponce de Leon avenues.

Police said Tuesday it wasn’t clear why, but, according to personnel on the train, the car was stopped on the tracks.

The operator said he wasn’t able to stop in time. The car was struck around 6:30 p.m.

Taithul was a pastor at Zo Presbyterian, which was meeting in a temporary facility on Memorial Drive, according to the funeral home. Services haven’t yet been announced by Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Taithul has also worked with the North American Pacific/Asian Disciples organization, according to its website.
