DeKalb County is on track to exceed its demolition goal for 2019 and will demolish the 82nd residential property this year, according to a press release.

DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond has enhanced county blight fighting initiatives to address derelict properties with the demolition or abatement of more than 445 properties since 2017.

The event will take place 9 a.m. Thursday at 1717 Hilton Ridge Court in Lithonia.

Thurmond will be joined by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners and DeKalb County staff for the tear-down of the single-family residential home.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
