Metro Atlanta dog and cat lovers, this event is for you.

LifeLine Animal Project is offering free adoptions in a “Clear the Shelter” event this Saturday, Aug. 18, at all four of its shelters. The shelters have recently been taking in up 60 animals per day, a press release said.

All cats, and all dogs more than 25 pounds, are eligible for fee-waived adoptions. They will receive a free spay or neuter, microchip and vaccinations.

“We are currently housing over 1,100 homeless dogs and cats at our DeKalb and Fulton County shelters, so adoptions are crucial to saving lives,” LifeLine Spokesperson Karen Hirsch said in a statement. “Adopting a pet not only saves the life of that pet, but also makes space for another homeless animal to take its place, so adopters can feel good about essentially saving two lives.”

Potential adopters will be screened to ensure pets go to safe homes.

The following shelters will participate:

• Fulton County Animal Services, 860 Marietta Blvd. NW, Atlanta

• DeKalb County Animal Services, 3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Chamblee

• LifeLine Dog House & Kitty Motel, 129 Lake St., Avondale Estates

• LifeLine Cat Adoption Center, 3172 E Ponce de Leon Ave., Scottdale
