Decatur’s school board unanimously approved purchasing more land near the end of its meeting Tuesday night. The property is 0.3 acres on 208 Westchester Drive, which backs up to Westchester Elementary. The cost is $489,000 with a closing date of around March 11.

This is third parcel City Schools Decatur has bought or has put under contract in the past eight months. Last summer CSD entered into a contract for six acres on Talley Street, a potential site for one or two new schools, with the closing date now moved back to June. In November CSD purchased .7 acre next to College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center.

Superintendent David Dude said CSD has no official plans for the new property though he has some ideas.

“We have a lot of issues with traffic management [due to heavily-traveled Scott Boulevard nearby],” he said. “We could be looking at parking over there, or a driveway or a drop-off point.”
