MARTA riders traveling to and from DeKalb County this weekend should expect increased police activity at one Blue Line station.

The agency's police department will conduct a simulated training exercise at the Decatur station on Nov. 5, MARTA officials recently announced.

The training exercise, named Operation Deep Impact, begins at 11:30 p.m. and is expected to last until 3 a.m. Plan ahead because rail service at the Decatur station will end at midnight.

A bus bridge will run between the East Lake and Avondale MARTA stations from 11:30 p.m. until service ends.

Similar training exercises will also happen that evening in north Fulton at the Sandy Springs MARTA station.

Federal laws require public transit agencies like MARTA to conduct these kind of trainings to evaluate its response abilities in case a real threat happens, agency officials say.
