When the Children’s Christmas Parade marches through downtown Atlanta on Dec. 4, a northwest Georgia band will have risen from the ashes like the phoenix to perform in the parade.
Last Thursday, Hurt’s Cleaners, in downtown Dalton went up in flames.
Inside the dry-cleaner’s burning building were the Dalton High School Catamount Band’s uniforms, which had been dropped off for a pre-holiday parades cleaning.
With only days to spare before a hometown Christmas parade and the Dec. 4 event sponsored by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, band director David Henry had to scramble to come up with a plan, because it will take much longer than two weeks to manufacture a new set of uniforms.
“We’re pursuing getting some sweatshirts that have our band crest embroidered on them, sort of making a memento for the kids to keep after all this is over with,” Henry told WTVC-TV in Chattanooga.
Donations may be made to Dalton Public Schools, P.O. Box 1408, Dalton, GA, 30722. Please note "band uniforms" on check.
