A glitch in a popular metro Atlanta restaurant’s computer system resulted in dozens of customers being charged multiple times for one meal, Channel 2 Action News reported.
The problem at the Atlanta Bread Company location off Ga. 92 in Woodstock was isolated to that restaurant over a few days, a spokeswoman for the company told the news station.
Lianne Whang said she is still trying to get the erroneous charges resolved. Whang told Channel 2 she and her husband had lunch at the Woodstock restaurant two weeks ago and noticed a problem on her bank statement the next day.
She was billed five times for her $11.66 lunch.
“I guess I was just sort of surprised,” she told the news station. “I never thought you could go out to lunch and then have something like that happen.”
When she called the Atlanta Bread Company location to figure out what happened, an employee told her they had received multiple complaints.
The company is still working to ensure all affected customers get their money back, Chief Marketing Officer Kim Jensen-Pitts said in a statement to Channel 2.
“Due to internet connectivity challenges, related to construction in the shopping center, and work being conducted by the internet/phone provider, this resulted in some customers getting duplicate charges to their credit cards once the system came back up,” the statement said.
